A writer who edits, an editor who writes
Writers make scores (or hundreds, or thousands) of decisions whenever they undertake a project, whether it’s an essay, a novel, or a website. A developmental editor helps with those decisions—about tone, point of view, the weaving of threads, the progression of ideas. For this website, rather than writing from across the room (“Lydia Bird is a writer and an editor…”), I’ve decided to write in first person.
I’m a writer and an editor (also an avid reader, a manuscript consultant, a book shepherd). I’m gratified when readers read and enjoy my work. And I thrive on helping other writers bring their works to their fullest potential.
