Editing
My first paid work as an editor (I’d edited many books for writer friends, before this) was in-house for legal publisher James Publishing, doing developmental editing, copyediting, and production editing. I later did similar work as a freelance contractor for Hunter House, an independent publisher of books on physical and emotional health.
For the past ten years, I’ve offered editorial services directly to authors, rather than through their publishers—in part because fewer agents and publishers are willing to take on a book unless it’s polished to a sheen. My clients describe me as patient, good-humored, insightful, and tireless. I’m also very candid about the obstacles—both emotional and professional—we face as writers. If you work with me, I can’t promise your book will be mainstream published. I can offer expert guidance in making it a stronger book.
Please feel free to contact me to tell me about your project, and to discuss how we might work together to bring it to its full potential.
